How to transfer your Z visa to another school?
This question could very well arise given a number of different situations. Maybe you want to quit your job or maybe you got a yearlong visa in the middle of the semester. Either way, you need to transfer your visa to whatever school hires you next. You simply can’t just start working at a new school with a visa issued by your old school. For starters, the old school likely already cancelled your visa. If something bad happens to you or you break the law the school that issued your visa could potentially get in trouble, especially if you are not currently working there.
The most important documents you will need are original copies of your medical exam report and your foreign expert certificate. Your new school should be able to transfer your Z visa with these things.
If you are thinking of quitting your current job be careful. If you leave the school under bad terms they can cause a whole lot of problems for you in China and they could make a transition to a new, better job much more difficult. If you want some advice on quitting take a look at Robert Vance’s advice on “How to quit your ESL teaching job in China.” (http://www.teachabroadchina.com/canceling-esl-contract-china/)
In my experience you will not be able to quit a school and never see them again – even if you have your medical records and foreign expert certificate. Chances are that you will need to go back to the school or call the school in order to get things like recommendations or other logistical details that your new school may or may not really need. Things can get hairy for a foreigner living in China. Without thick skin you’ll soon find yourself on a flight back home.
